When comparing roof replacement proposals, look beyond the shingle brand and installation price. The complete roofing system, contractor qualifications, and written warranty all affect the value of your investment.

Commercial Roofing Contractor (CRC) is a TAMKO Pro Platinum contractor serving Colorado and the Nebraska Panhandle. On qualifying installations, this certification allows CRC to offer enhanced limited system warranties, including MasterShield.

This guide draws on a product and warranty briefing our team held with Clayton Putman, a TAMKO territory manager and our account representative, on October 8, 2026, compared against the TAMKO warranty materials linked throughout.

Here's what homeowners, HOA boards, and property managers should understand before choosing their next roof.

Why choose a TAMKO Pro Platinum contractor?

TAMKO Pro Platinum certification gives property owners access to enhanced warranty options through a contractor trained and certified in TAMKO products and installation techniques.

TAMKO's Platinum program includes verified insurance and a required code of professional practices. The practical benefit is the ability to offer enhanced limited system warranties when the roofing system, installation, and registration meet the manufacturer's requirements.

Certification alone does not automatically qualify every roof for enhanced coverage.

Compare TAMKO's enhanced warranty options

CRC can offer the following enhanced limited system warranties on qualifying HailGuard installations:

Warranty optionFull Start period for eligible single-family propertiesLimited contractor workmanship coverageQualifying HailGuard hail coverage
TAMKO Shield20 yearsNone10 years
ProShield50 yearsNone12 years
MasterShield50 years10 years15 years

Full Start is the non-prorated period for covered warranty claims. It does not mean every roof problem or storm-related loss is covered.

For properties classified as non-single-family, the Full Start periods are different: 10 years for TAMKO Shield and 30 years for ProShield and MasterShield.

What makes HailGuard shingles different?

TAMKO HailGuard is a UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated asphalt shingle that combines impact-resistant construction with a hail-specific limited system warranty.

TAMKO describes HailGuard's ImpactCore technology as combining advanced asphalt formulation and fiberglass mat engineering to help withstand hail impacts.

A Class 4 rating is a laboratory impact classification. It does not make a roof hail-proof or guarantee that every storm will leave it undamaged.

What does HailGuard's hail warranty cover?

HailGuard's hail-specific coverage applies to qualifying leaks caused by penetration of verified hailstones measuring 3 inches or less in diameter.

Coverage depends on the written warranty's requirements, including specified system components, proper installation, and an opportunity for the shingles to seal.

This is not blanket coverage for every cosmetic mark, granule loss, or other damage following a hailstorm.

When paired with a qualifying MasterShield installation, HailGuard provides 15 years of qualifying hail coverage. The MasterShield + HailGuard warranty requires notice to TAMKO within 90 days of the hailstorm alleged to have caused the leak.

What does MasterShield workmanship coverage include?

MasterShield provides 10 years of limited contractor workmanship coverage for qualifying application errors affecting covered system products.

This differs from manufacturing-defect coverage. During Full Start, covered manufacturing-defect remedies can include replacement products and reasonable labor, tear-off, removal, and disposal costs.

Workmanship coverage has separate limitations. It excludes metalwork, flashing, disposal, and non-TAMKO products. Property owners should compare the manufacturer's written warranty with any separate workmanship warranty provided by their contractor.

An enhanced warranty is valuable, but its scope matters as much as its duration.

Wind protection and cold-weather installation

TAMKO advertises a 160 mph extended wind warranty and installation temperatures down to 25°F for HailGuard.

These benefits depend on compliance with TAMKO's applicable instructions, including the required accessories, fastening, and sealing conditions.

Cold-weather installation flexibility does not mean shingles seal immediately. Proper installation and suitable sealing conditions remain essential.

What should homeowners and HOA boards request?

Before approving a roof replacement, request:

  • The exact shingles and accessory products included in the proposal.
  • The enhanced warranty name and applicable property classification.
  • Written coverage periods for manufacturing defects, workmanship, hail, and wind.
  • An itemized installation proposal.
  • Confirmation of registration and a copy of the issued warranty.

MasterShield requires qualifying accessories from at least four product categories, complete tear-off, installation across all roof planes, and registration within 90 days of completion.

Rental properties, HOA-owned buildings, and certain ownership arrangements can fall outside TAMKO's single-family definition. Confirm the property classification before assuming a 50-year Full Start period applies.

Can HailGuard reduce insurance costs?

Impact-resistant roofing may qualify for an insurance premium discount, depending on the insurer, installed product, policy, and location. Ask your insurance agent to confirm eligibility and any required documentation before choosing an upgrade.

A roofing warranty does not replace property insurance, guarantee a discount, or eliminate future deductibles. Compare the installation cost, available insurance benefits, and actual warranty coverage when evaluating your options.
