Project Capsule: On a historic home in Grand Junction, Colorado, CRC took one of the steepest, tallest residential roofs in the neighborhood down to the structure and rebuilt it to current code: full tear-off, new decking, ice and water shield at the eaves, and a new Owens Corning Oakridge architectural shingle system in Estate Gray, backed by a 30-year shingle warranty.

The Challenge
This is one of Grand Junction's grand old homes, a tall, two-plus-story historic house with a steep hipped roof that climbs to a peak crowned by a decorative finial. That roof is beautiful, and it is also a serious job. A roof this steep and this high is demanding and hazardous to tear off and reshingle safely, the kind of roof a lot of companies quietly decline. On top of the pitch, the home's original roof decking no longer met current building code, so it could not simply be re-covered. It needed to be rebuilt the right way.
The Solution
CRC took the roof down to the structure and rebuilt it to today's code, working the steep slopes by hand with proper staging and fall protection the whole way. We re-decked the roof with new sheathing to meet current building code, sealed the leak-prone eaves with self-adhered ice and water shield, rolled Owens Corning ProArmor synthetic underlayment across the field, and installed a new Owens Corning Oakridge architectural shingle system in Estate Gray, a color that suits the historic home, along with new gutters and downspouts. The smaller low-slope section was rebuilt as well, so the entire roof was renewed in one project.
The Result
A historic Grand Junction home got a brand-new, code-compliant roof engineered to last, installed on one of the steepest, tallest residential roofs in the neighborhood without cutting corners on safety or quality. The new architectural shingles, ice and water protection, and proper underlayment give the owner a roof built for Colorado weather and backed by a 30-year shingle warranty, and the home keeps the character of its dramatic steep silhouette. It is the kind of difficult, high, steep historic roof that shows what an experienced crew can do that a typical contractor cannot.
